Aamir Khan has kept his promise. His Dangal that has turned out to be a winner at the box-office was screened to some 500 people in the Balali village in the Bhiwani district of Haryana recently. Balali is the village, Mahvir Singh Phogat and his girls hail from. Dangal is based on Mahavir Singh’s struggle to make champion wrestlers out of his daughters Geeta and Babita.

Aamir had visited Mahavir Singh’s house in November to attend Geeta’s marriage. During his visit to the village, he was requested to hold a special screening of the film. Aamir promised that he would do so once the film released.

Since the nearest movie hall is some 100 km away, Aamir held one big screening for the villagers. All arrangements from snacks, seating arrangements, transportation of the villagers to the venue were taken care of by Aamir. The villagers loved the film and couldn’t stop clapping and crying during the screening. Even Mahavir Singh and his family were present. After the screening, the villagers chatted with Aamir and expressed how happy they were seeing the glorification of their village.

More on Dangal: The producers have joined hands with Anand Gandhi for a virtual making of the film, an experience straight from the sets of Dangal. Now, for the first time, the audiences can see and feel how Aamir went through a body transformation for the film in an immersive virtual reality. Aamir permitted the ElseVR team to follow him on locations in Haryana and Mumbai for the Virtual Reality film.
