Shah Rukh Khan launches the Indian Academy Awards

We have heard of the Academy Awards in Hollywood. And, now follows the Indian Academy Awards (IAA), that was launched at the US Consulate, Mumbai on Wednesday, December 21, by none other than Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The inaugural ceremony will be held at the Oracle Arena in the Bay Area, Silicon Valley in California.

The Golden Knight trophy and the logo of the awards were unveiled by Shah Rukh in the presence of esteemed dignitaries. Talking about his association with IAA, Shah Rukh said, “I’m happy to be associated with the first of its kind Indian Academy Awards, which is an amalgamation of everything a cinema lover could hope for. This academy invites everyone to be part of a movement that will refine the entertainment world.”

What makes these awards special is the fact that they invite audiences all over the world to be part of the jury by a simple registration process. The academy also has one of the biggest certifying agencies in the world to authentic the voting process.

The awards ceremony will be choreographed by Shiamak Davar and will have the biggest stars of the current and past generations, both from Bollywood and the South. The two-day celebration will start with a fashion show and a musical extravaganza. It will close with the grand finale of the Bollywood, Hollywood and Tollywood award ceremonies.

Adds Saurabh Pandey, Founder of IAA, “The Indian Film Industry is going global and the Indian Academy Awards is a celebration of that global and democratic academy that is completely transparent and all encompassing. Our aim with these awards is to bring a sense of realism and credibility to cinema awards in the Indian film industry. This is an academy that never sleeps.”

Audiences can log on to to vote for their favorite stars and movies in over 21 categories.
